- Recommended Soil: Prefers well-draining loam or sandy loam, slightly alkaline to neutral pH (6.5 to 7.5). Add compost or aged manure in fall or spring for best performance.
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to part shade (at least 6 hours daily). Can benefits from afternoon shade in warmer zones (8–9), but keep in mind that more sun = more blooms!
- Irrigation Needs: Moderate water needs; prefers consistent moisture. Water deeply during dry spells, especially during bloom season. Avoid soggy roots; mulching helps retain moisture.
- Feeding & Nutrients: Feed with a balanced (10-10-10) fertilizer in early spring, and avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent leafy growth over flowering. Light top-dressing of compost in fall strengthens root development.
- Pruning & Maintenance: Cut back foliage to ground after frost in fall. Remove spent blooms to maintain plant vigor, no staking necessary; upright stems are strong and self-supporting
