RED STEM GINGER Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
Curcuma is easy to grow and adapts to most conditions, however it does like moist and slightly boggy soil locations. Feed once a year with a slow release fertilizer.
Virginia - Jul 03, 2012
Ocala, Florida (Hardiness Zone: 8)
This plant is spectacular in its' second year. It does not tolerate Florida sun. Last year it was very unhappy (and so was I) and I thought it was a dud. Overwintered in large pot, died back (it is a curcuma after all)and then it came back beautifully this Spring. Pot is in very bright light from the South - no direct sun touches it. Has masses of leaves, strong new shoots and dark red stems. Definitely a plant for patient, hands-on gardeners. Try it, you will enjoy the challenge.
