Native to the eastern and southern US, Redbuds are scattered throughout the countryside’s and are one of the first trees to flower in early spring, along with Dogwoods. 1. Mike - Mar 26, 2011
    Texas (Hardiness Zone: 7)

I've planted both, and this beautiful tree is vastly superior to the better-known 'Lavender Twist'. 'Traveller' is healthier and more floriferous for me than 'Lavender Twist'. It's possible that this is due to the fact that this tree is from central Texas (where I live)and 'Lavender Twist' was discovered in New York, so it may just be climate preferences. That being said, the spring display from Traveller is breathtaking. The blooms appear first, completely covering the tree. They hold on as the tree begins leafing out and the contrast between the shiny bright-green new leaves and purplish-pink flowers is outstanding. Mine is situated where it is back-lit by the morning sun and it glows like a beacon. This tree was purchased from Sooner and they shipped the best looking specimen I've ever received from a mail order nursery. A personal favorite and highly recommended.

    Beautiful very slow growing

  3. Jan - Jul 14, 2015
    Georgia (Hardiness Zone: 7)

I meant to follow up and provide a review after this was planted. We ended up moving from that house just a year after I planted this, and honestly, one of the hardest things to leave behind was this tree. It was beautiful. It took root immediately and grew well in Atlanta's heat and notorious basic/clay soil. I had amended the soil somewhat, but it managed very well without much babysitting at all. I'm now looking at buying it again for the new house.
