Proven Winners® Color Choice® Plant Collection

Hardiness Zone: 3-7   ·   Mature Height: 2-3 Feet   ·   Mature Spread: 18-24 Inches

Proud Berry Pearl™ Snowberry brings a clean, luminous elegance to the landscape just when gardens begin to fade. This improved snowberry selection forms a compact, easy-to-place shrub that becomes smothered in large, porcelain-white berries in autumn. The berries stand out vividly against the plant's blue-green foliage, providing freshness and contrast in borders, pathways, or foundation plantings.

While its fruit steals the spotlight in fall, the growing season begins with clusters of soft pink summer flowers that attract bees and other beneficial pollinators. As a North American native hybrid, this shrub is naturally tough and well-adapted, thriving in a wide range of soils—including poor, dry, or alkaline sites—where many ornamentals struggle. Its adaptability and durability make it especially useful for low-maintenance landscapes.

As part of the Proven Winners Deer Proof program, Proud Berry Pearl™ Snowberry offers peace of mind in areas with heavy browsing pressure. With minimal pruning and simple care, it maintains a tidy, compact shape that fits seamlessly into small gardens, mixed shrub borders, and wildlife-friendly spaces. Whether used as a single accent, a small informal hedge, or as part of a four-season planting design, this snowberry consistently delivers unique beauty with almost no effort.

PROUD BERRY PEARL™ SNOWBERRY Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips

  • Recommended Soil:
    • Performs well in average to sandy or loamy soil Tolerates poor, dry, or rocky soils.
    • Handles alkaline conditions better than many shrubs.
    • Ensure moderate drainage; avoids waterlogged foundations.

  • Sun Exposure:
    • Full sun for strongest berry production.
    • Tolerates part sun, though fruit set may be lighter.
    • Excellent choice for open, bright exposures.

  • Irrigation Needs:
    • Moderate water during establishment.
    • Once rooted, highly drought tolerant.
    • Water deeply but infrequently in extended dry periods.
    • Mulch lightly to conserve soil moisture and reduce heat stress.

  • Feeding & Nutrients:
    • Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring, especially in poorer soils.
    • Organic compost can improve vigor but is not required.
    • Avoid overfertilization, which can reduce berry density.

  • Pruning & Maintenance:
    • Prune in late winter or very early spring.
    • Responds well to renewal pruning every 2–3 years.
    • Light shaping improves density and encourages larger berry clusters.
    • Deer resistant—rarely browsed even in high-pressure areas.
    • Summer flowers transition to large white berries in fall; fruit may persist into early winter for continued interest.
